Clumps

What started off as a doodle in a metro station turned into a full- fledge project, pursued for a year later on. It was a rough scribble of other metro commuters intermingled and squashed against one another into what turned out to be a dense ball. Titled “Clump”, this dense ball of human figures revealed itself to be my unease in congested environments. Having been brought up in a country where the already dense population continues to escalate in number, you often find yourself in uncomfortable, crowded situations. The congestion in Singapore has always been annoying to me. ‘Clumps’ is a project that captures the discomfort I get from my daily dose of confinement in Singapore’s streets. It is a physical manifestation of the resentment I have towards the rigidity, invasion of personal space, and the chaos arising from it all.
